In which I am angry and ranty

Right. Yes. Well. Losing to New Zealand... that's something that's going to take a little getting used to.

Though, after our pitiful innings, I thought it would be over very quickly and I could go home and watch the Oz Open final. But I forgot it was New Zealand we were playing, so the whole thing was long and drawn out and nearly painful, until it came down to the wire.

Australia looked utterly half-arsed from the outset. Like they were batting in a Test match but running like a Twenty20.

To their credit, they seemed to get themselves together a bit in the field. But their batting SUCKED. Ponting and Clarke were both run out. Ponting wasn't even stretched or have his bat pushed far in front of him or LEAP to make it across the line. He didn't look like he was even trying!

And then with our early bowling breakthroughs it was clear that they are no South Africa, but was it the proverbial park walk? No.

And somehow, somehow, they crept up and home.

Did we deserve to lose? Absolutely.

Are we screwed? I think so.

Is New Zealand better than England? I doubt it.

So we are really screwed? Potentially, uber-screwed.

And what is with our uniforms? What possessed the designers to take every shit idea since 1981 and combine them and then make it multi-coloured?

Feckin hell.

It's been something of a sobering or more apt uber sobering Summer of cricket for you guys, right :)

I'm pretty sure you guys wished the tri series was on, rather than this , two times 5 ODI's. Look back to the previous tri series with S Af, you guys pretty much lost every round robin game to them, before pipping them in the finals after scraping through.. or as in 2001-02 even that didn't happen...ouch

Ah well, if only Ponting and his ' new age cricket' had thought of planning well ahead, the fall wouldn't be this bad.

Well, here's to the next few ODI's. Sure you will beat NZ and win the series.

But seriously you guys have hope in hell in the Ashes, if Flintoff/Harmison/Panesar stay injury free. Now that is some record Ponting can be proud off.

Oh lastly, seriously this Aussie team over a Fed- Nadal final??? Get your priorities right MF

yeah, yeah sure - especially brad haddin - he was outstandingly "hard but fair" wasn't he missy? can't decide which one was the more fair - haddin clean bowling Broom today, or greg chappel getting trevor cheppel to bowl underarm.

ahh - the great ozzies.

I'm of the belief that their tense football like mentality early in the innings was a factor in Marsh pulling his hamstring.

And what's going on in the West? Australia haven't won a game there for some time now.

Is it because most Westralians would like to secede from the Federation?

How times have changed.

Australian sides of years gone by always won when they cheated, but not last night.

Neil Broom must be flattered that Haddin / Clarke worked that one on him.

Don't worry, New Zealand were almost better than England...

Don't take it too hard. NZ can be pretty good at ODIs. Much better than England at this format.

Miss Field said...

Oh yes and we cheated. Bastards.

To be fair a 'prime' Australia made a habit of losing to New Zealand and usually whilst conceding 350.

One thing I have noticed is that club/state crickets are pumped up into superstars, usually without playing more than three ODIs, and then fail to impress in style. It like playing state cricket gives them a superiority over international sides.... not.

So my dear Miss Field, what would you do to rectify it?

Boot camp. Pack them all off to boot camp. None of this resting nonsense. A rest won't make Ponting better. A kick in the arse might though. Make them run across the Gibson Desert. And then back.

I sympathise with you, hard to get used to Australia losing.
I had a (very brief) weak moment yesterday where I felt sorry for the Aus team while they were batting, but I recovered.
I'm glad the Kiwis won and was disgusted when Haddin bumped the bales off with his gloves. (It didn't help having a half blind umpire). I wonder when he's going to retire?
I just hope the Kiwis will play more confidently in the next ODI's, I feel Australia has a mental edge over them. This game could have gone either way.
Come on Kiwi's, believe in yourself! You can do it!

Can someone here tell me how this is possible??

Haddin in his own words on the Broom incident

"After looking at the replay, my hands were in front of the stumps but the ball - I'm 100 per cent positive (it) hit the bails first and then came up into my gloves."

I am no physics whiz, but commonsense tells me this is impossible - how can a ball which has to go past the gloves to hit the stumps, come back into the gloves. Sorry but I'm just lost here.

How dense are the Australian team!!!!!!!!

The Haddingate reminds of a much more flagrant example

Well, anyway, this is too much. They lost a match against NZ. NZ arent bad - they are good to win atleast 1 in 5 against Aus. Only England can lose 5-0, and even they won against 2 years ago in the finals - 2 years ago when the team was better.
I am sure Aus will win this series now 4-1 or 3-2 at the worst. They are not that bad

Most of the NZ side wouldnt make it into the best state sides.

What a cruel taskmistress. Have you been at the Peter Moores school of physical fitness? Andrew Symonds would have to keep stopping for a drink.

Well said! It is IMPOSSIBLE for the ball to hit the stumps and then bounce backwards into Haddins gloves which were in front of the stumps. I feel embarassed for Haddin.

RAJ & ROB
I see you're still waffling on about how good your Aus side is. Wake up guys! Aus lost to NZ (who in your opinion are so poor, they would not even be good enough for an Aus state side).

I think you're in for a surprise! The Kiwis are going to kick Aus butt and win this series. You (Australians) have only strengthened their resolve, especially after Haddin cheating.

I look forward to Friday.

SA SUPPORTER, whatever. But Aus is not my side. I am not Ricky Ponting.
And I dont support Oz either. I dont like Ricky Ponting. But that doesnt mean he is a muppet - well, er, ofcourse, he is but he isnt that bad.

Watch out - he might come back and win the SA series -

As a totally unbiased Kiwi I have huge respect for Australian Cricket you are winners!!, and have been doing it for a long time. When I look at your recent Captains I don't see Ponting in the class Of Border, Waugh.Hes a great player but does nothing to foster relations between visiting teams. Such as India, South Africa,New Zealand . I believe he needs media training comes across to brash and arrogant. The game is greater than any one game or any player this seem lost on Ponting. In terms of what happened Sunday I was more apalled by the umpire decision on Mcullum that could have changed the course of the match and was such a bad decision the guy must be deaf!! not to hear the wood.In regards to Haddin I believe he did Know and I also concur with our Physics teacher it is an impossibility. However I still feel there may be some doubt as to whether he did know or not in the heat of the moment etc. What I will say is I can understand Vettoris frustration and he is usually pretty quiet but I believe it was poorly handled by both Ponting, and subesequently Haddin.I know you Aussie see us at about the same level as Tasmania, and I was interested to see the guy who said most New Zelanders couldn't make a State side that's really a crop of shit!! Lets take a wee look Mccullum, Vettori, Taylor,Oram, Mills Patel (everyone knows you need spinners at the moment.Rhyder if he was hereIbelieve we can win this series 3 to 2

Lets take a wee look indeed Rob. What I said was, "Most of the NZ side wouldnt make it into the best state sides." Guptill, Fulton, Redmond, Broom, Patel, Elliott etc are going to have a hard time getting into the Victoria or NSW lineups, let alone beating them at any form of the game.

As the Aussies lose one game after the other against the Kiwis, Sehwag and Co. can be heard guffawing away in the Emerald Isle.

Well done to the Kiwis and thanks for not gloating about your victories. It shows class and integrity! Refreshing change from what we are used to. The Australians can learn a lot from you, about being humble in victory.

I notice there haven't been many comments since Oz lost the 2nd ODI to the Kiwis. There were a few arrogant comments before the games though.

I almost (I said almost) felt a wee bit sorry for Haddin when he came in to bat that last game. He must regret what he did. That will follow him around for a long, time.

Tomorrow is going to be very interesting. If NZ win the Aussie's confidence will be shattered.

Food for thought. I wonder if they are still thinking they can take the Ashes too.!!!!!

I was wrong!

I see Haddin made quick recovery. No guilty concience there.
Cheating Bastard!!!

Miss Field, how'd you feel about the White Ferns winning their game against Australia? I bet you felt better when, despite winning their side of the competion, their game on Saturday isn't be televised... since the Aussies have usurped North Sydney oval...
