Compton is here:
No your eyes are not deceived. Americans are playing cricket. (Don't say it too loud, it might be catching.) And I don't mean the West Indies imports their 'national side' consists of.Growing up it was drummed into me that basically, you can't trust a country that doesn't play cricket. While I realise now that there are some pretty large gaps in logic here (like the bit about not trusting those that do, either), the essential point remained: the USA are not to be trusted.
We've all heard the stories about Twenty20 and the IPL catering for an American audience, but it's a fair assumption that it's aimed that the Indian ex-pats living in the States.
This is being reported as a good news story, because Compton by the sounds of it, is a hell hole, and these young men have transcended their gangster fate because of cricket.
These young men, who call themselves the Homies & the Popz.
Are we on the same page yet? 'Mainstream' USA made hip hop and other musical
Because, good news story aside, cricket is better without the United States. No, I'm not such a heartless bitch that I'm not glad these guys turned their lives around (and if you'd like to donate to them you can do so here). But really, couldn't they find soccer or something?
I doubt that our sport is going to be conquered by Yanks just yet. Which is good, because basically, there's no room in cricket for American egos. Dealing with the Indians is challenging enough.
It will never happen. Right?

After the Superbowl extravaganza, I shudder to think of an APL!
but it sure would be cool if we can get to watch top International cricketers in action (and no, that does not include the farcical Nz-SL matches!)
Sachin Tendulkar is the first batsman to be dismissed (run out) by using the television replays by the third umpire, Jonty Rhodes was the fielder. Next day,in the same test match,Jonty Rhodes was given run out by the umpire. This time the fielder was none other than Sachin Tendulkar..Get latest update on cricket world cup on my blog
Hi, cricke You only have to look at Michael Clarke's Twitter feed to note how dismissive he has been of something incredibly important to the rest of us. Like... "We worked out the answer... I will be fielding with Brad Haddins wicket keeping gloves on next test so I should be right catching.

Hi there,
We have recently set up Cricket Ireland TV on youtube. See here - www.youtube.com/cricketirelandtv & www.irishcricket.org . The sole aim of the project is just to raise awareness and support for the great sport of cricket here in Ireland & around the cricketing World. There is a nice mix of viral skills videos, player interviews, tour diaries & celebs backing our boys in green.
I am wondering if you may be interested in doing a piece on your blog ahead of Ireland's first game in the world cup on Friday. If you'd like to embed any of the videos onto your site that would be great as well.
If you need any further information or help with emdedding please don't hesistate to contact me.
Kind Regards
Andrew Leonard

Small World of Cricket lovers who blog is not so small after all.The info about Compton and American presence in cricket is interesting.More so the challenges posed by the Indians.
In a World Cup Match in 1975, Gavaskar batted throughout the 60 overs & scored only 36 runs . India lost to England by a huge margin of 203 runs..Get more on my blog
I'm a cricket loving American with not a bit of blood from a cricket playing nation. I have to admit I am undecided if we should attempt to grasp the gentlemans sport. Yes I would love to see a true cricket match (I did see Ind v Pak in Canada a few years back) but I can't imagine a 1st class multi-day match played here. If we would start playing I imagine it being a 20 over thing with blond cheerleaders and cheesy music between overs... oh wait India beat us to that.
We will never accept cricket as a country since its too foreign for our right leaning citizens. We didn't invent it, people of terrorist descent play it, and it uses anti American terms like doorsa and Zimbabwe.
I guess I'm glad cricket it enjoyed by only a few of us natural born yanks. It makes it more special when someone recognizes my black caps test shirt when I'm out. Unfortunately in my life that has happed as often as my Cubs have one the baseballs world series. (No I was not around in 1908)
Good post i like it................
Though i dont know much about cricket, your blog taught me so many things about cricket and makes me to love that game. thanks
I don't think you have to worry about seppos invading the pitch en masse and adding cheerleaders and other atrocities just yet. As a cricket fan living in the States, I have found that the most characteristic feature of cricket in the US is its utter invisibility (which I've always found puzzling, given that test cricket actually had its debut here over a century ago) - I think you'd have to go to Jamaica just to find a proper pitch, and even if the US national side ever made it to the world cup, hardly anyone here would notice, let alone spend any money to get the rights to cover it.
(Incidentally, the hiphop artists who have come from Compton have been some of the best of all time, I'd have to say.)
can the writer explained about
"dealing with the indian" thing??
lol, never thought this side of the view, I always thought if Americans get in cricket would be good, but as you said they may change the game and all, not sure thats possible because its more than 100 years game has changed in terms of bat or ball much. having said that you may be right, but with Americans, in the game would also come lot of popularity dont you thing?
WTF is it with the comments??? Is every second one a spambot?
I came here to say cricket is big[!] in Florida coz it's near the West Indies countries.
Straight outta Compton - crazy motherfucker named Ice Cube, from the gang called Niggaz With Attitude.
When I'm called off I got a sawed off. Squeeze the trigger and bodies are hauled off.
You too, boy, if ya fuck with me. The police are gonna hafta come and get me.
Instead of going high with US and China, ICC must look to spread and develop the sport in interested nations like Ireland. They must stop the talent drain that is happening in Ireland and scrap stupid laws which didnt allow Hamish Marshal to play for Ireland in the WC.

cricket is my life.i can't live without cricket.
nice to read an Aussie write "dealing with the Indians is challenging enough" ;)
Go the chat going, but really Americans and cricket!!
ya Americans cant fathom cricket. They're not engineered that way. And being an Indian, I could say even most Indians dont seem to have a good taste for Test cricket. But its much media driven here. Also the Ego you were referring to.
This is interesting to read information. I have noticed that I was a mistake thought that UK hold the leadership in this sport. Thanks for the article.

even though that cricket is not a popular sports at all in the United States, I think that little by little people are getting hooked to this sport
